Neeraj Chopra World Athletics Championships: India's superstar athlete Neeraj Chopra failed to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships. He couldn't defend his gold medal. 

Neeraj didn't even finish in the top five. He finished eighth in the final. His defeat surprised everyone. India's Sachin Yadav finished ahead of Neeraj, finishing fourth. Neeraj made a big revelation after this defeat. He was suffering from a back problem and because of this, he couldn't perform well.

Neeraj's performance declines

Neeraj had been suffering from a back problem for the past two weeks, and this affected his performance in the World Championships final in Tokyo on Thursday. 

Media reports revealed that Neeraj had a back problem. The two-time Olympic medalist acknowledged this after his competition in Tokyo. Neeraj was defending the gold medal he won in 2023, but had a disappointing performance in the final, finishing eighth.

Back injury and lack of exercise

Speaking to PTI on condition of anonymity, an Athletics Federation of India (AFI) official said, "Yes, it's true that Neeraj Chopra has been suffering from a back problem for the past few weeks. 

He informed us about it. The back problem may have affected his performance, but he shouldn't worry about his performance. Wins and losses happen in sports. 

Besides, javelin throw is an event where you can perform very well on one day and not at all on another." According to the AFI official, Neeraj informed the federation about his back problem while practicing in the Czech Republic before the World Championships. Neeraj's current coach, Jan Zelezny, is from the Czech Republic.

Neeraj also admitted his pain

After finishing eighth, Neeraj Chopra said it was a different day when he couldn't control the situation. He said, "This has happened in a long time. Usually, I'm able to control the situation, but today was different. 

I will accept this result and try my best next season. But before coming here, I had a back problem while training in the Czech Republic, and because of that, I haven't practiced for the last two weeks. I'm undergoing treatment. My team knows about it, and I've informed the AFI."

The problem started on September 4

Regarding when and how the back problem developed, Neeraj said, "It happened on September 4th. I was practicing shot put. I do both back throw and front throw. 

When I bent down to do a front throw, I suddenly felt a jolt on my left side, and I couldn't even walk." He added that an MRI was done in Prague and revealed a disc problem. Since arriving here on September 6th, he has been receiving daily treatment with a machine.
