The cold has increased, and so has pollution. This double attack is harming health. Pollution affects everyone. Does increasing pollution also affect diabetes patients?

What precautions should these patients take? Let's learn about this from experts. According to doctors, tiny polluted particles in the air, such as PM2.5, enter the lungs through the breath and harm diabetes patients.

Dr. Ajay Kumar of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) explains that high levels of pollution can harm diabetic patients. Pollution particles cause inflammation in the body, which can lead to impaired insulin function.

Pollution can disrupt hormonal balance, specifically increasing cortisol, which can lead to sudden spikes in blood sugar. While this doesn't happen to every diabetic patient, exposure to pollution can increase the risk, with some patients at higher risk.

Which diabetes patients are most at risk?

  1. Those whose sugar is not under control for a long time
  2. Diabetic patients over 60 years of age

People who take insulin

Those who also have heart or kidney disease

How can diabetic patients avoid pollution?

  1. Do not go out for morning walk
  2. Wear a mask when going out
  3. Take your medicines on time
  4. Check your sugar level daily

What to do if the sugar level rises

If your sugar level is rising, increase your dosage on your own. Consult your doctor. Take your medications as directed. Also, pay attention to your diet and avoid excessive sugary or fast food.

You shouldn't go out for walks or exercise, but you can do light walks and exercise indoors. Also, make sure you don't miss any of your medications.
