Occasional dizziness is normal; it can be due to weakness or fluctuations in blood pressure. However, if dizziness occurs frequently, it could be due to vertigo.

However, people often ignore it. Experts say that vertigo is a neurological disorder. The risk increases with age. It can even be dangerous in people over 60.

Senior neurologist Dr. Anirban Biswas explains that vertigo is considered a balance disorder. Patients often visit four to seven different specialists and undergo expensive MRI and CT scans, which have no direct connection to their underlying problem. Even after MRIs, the exact cause of the dizziness remains elusive.

Dr. Anirban said that 27 percent of patients suffering from dizziness have problems related to the inner part of the ear (vestibular system), but most of the doctors consider this as the problem and keep treating it, whereas the real reason can be related to the brain like migraine, loss of balance due to pressure on the nerves of the neck.

Memory can become weak due to lack of proper treatment.

Dr. Anirban Biswas says that if vertigo is not treated properly, it can lead to depression and memory loss, severely affecting patients' quality of life. Therefore, it is important not to take dizziness lightly and seek proper treatment.

How to identify whether it is a normal headache or vertigo?

A typical headache is characterized by pressure, heaviness, or pain in the head. However, vertigo can cause the head and entire body to feel like they're spinning.

Headaches are typically felt in the forehead, temples, or back of the head. However, vertigo can cause increased dizziness and can lead to loss of balance with movement. Vertigo can also be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or sweating, and ear pain.
