Review meeting and necessary criteria
The fifth meeting of the Reorganization Sub-Committee was held on Tuesday at the Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh, chaired by Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar.
Other members of the sub-committee included Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana.
Following the meeting, the sub-committee decided to submit a report to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to effectively implement the proposed reorganization of the areas in coordination with the relevant departments.
To form new districts, a minimum of 125 to 200 villages, a population of over 400,000, and an area of over 80,000 hectares are required. Separate criteria have also been set for the creation of subdivisions, tehsils, and sub-tehsils.
Effect on census and administrative boundaries
The caste census will begin in Haryana in April next year, and decisions on the formation of new districts are expected by December 31, 2025. If new districts are not formed by this deadline, the process will be delayed for the next year and a half.
Following the census, delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha seats will also be carried out, with the number of Assembly seats expected to increase from 90 to 126 and Lok Sabha seats from 10 to 14.
Currently, Haryana has six divisions, 22 districts, 80 sub-divisions, 94 tehsils, 49 sub-tehsils, 143 blocks, 154 towns, and 6,841 villages.
Charkhi Dadri was last designated as the 22nd district in 2016. Since then, the creation of new districts has been under consideration, and the government is preparing to finalize it soon.
