Mega plan in Delhi

News (Delhi NCR). Delhi is a rapidly developing metropolis. The government is working on several major projects to provide all kinds of amenities to its residents.

New cities are being built here. Road connectivity is being strengthened, and industries are being established. Additionally, the government has now ordered the Public Works Department (PWD) to repair Delhi's old routes to make them pothole-free. Many major routes in Delhi will be doubled.

Free from dust and pits

Delhi's roads are about to be free of dust and potholes. The Public Works Department (PWD) is implementing a grand plan to brighten and strengthen major roads in South Delhi.

From the Ring Road to Hauz Khas Village, several busy thoroughfares will soon be gleaming with a new shine. The makeover is expected to cost more than ₹61 crore (approximately $1.6 billion).

The mega project will be completed at this cost

The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a massive road repair and beautification plan at a cost of ₹61.88 crore. This project will revamp 13 key roads in South Delhi.

The Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, and the internal roads of Green Park, Hauz Khas, and Saket will be part of this makeover. Work will begin before winter and is expected to be completed in about a year.

Technology will take a strong turn

This time, the PWD is adopting modern and environmentally friendly methods to strengthen roads. Old asphalt will be reused using cold milling and recycling techniques.

This will reduce the need for new raw materials by 30 percent. Furthermore, 8 percent waste plastic will be incorporated into the bituminous mix. The roads will be coated with a layer of polymer modified bitumen, which will prevent cracks in Delhi's changing temperatures.

The drainage system and footpaths will also be upgraded.

This time, the PWD's focus isn't limited to just road surfaces. The drainage system and sidewalks in Green Park Market and Hauz Khas Village will also be upgraded.

The central verges of Aruna Asaf Ali Marg and Vedanta Deshika Marg will be greened and beautified. A PWD official explained, "Now, every road project will include drainage, sidewalks, and landscaping. This will help Delhi's roads withstand the vagaries of the weather."

The condition of the roads will be assessed

Before work begins, the PWD will conduct a thorough road inspection using a Network Survey Vehicle (NSV). This high-tech vehicle will use laser and video imaging to create a digital record of road roughness, cracks, potholes, and slopes.

An official explained that while inspections were previously done visually, the NSV will now provide data-driven accountability. A second survey will be conducted six months after the work is completed, allowing for the roads' longevity to be assessed.

There will be traffic problems

Traffic will be diverted in some areas during the road makeover. However, the Public Works Department (PWD) has developed plans to minimize inconvenience to the public.

Most of the work will be done at night, and diversion plans are being developed with the help of the traffic police. However, some traffic jams are possible on Wazirabad Road, the Outer Ring Road, and Mathura Road.
