UP: Nowhere else is there such a model of free treatment, Bareilly has left the entire state behind
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has seen a major transformation in healthcare services. 4.25 crore Ayushman cards, 80 medical colleges, free hemodialysis, improved vaccinations, and e-Sanjeevani have brought expert treatment to rural areas.
Uttar Pradesh's healthcare system was once characterized by long queues, limited resources, and a lack of specialist doctors in rural areas. However, the picture has changed rapidly since 2017.
This is because Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has laid the foundation for comprehensive reforms, recognizing healthcare services not as a "basic facility" but as a "fundamental right."
Telemedicine reaching villages, free treatment for millions of poor people, and the rapid expansion of medical colleges have all strengthened the state's healthcare infrastructure.
More than 4.25 crore Ayushman cards issued, Bareilly becomes number one in the state
According to the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), more than 42.5 million Ayushman cards have been issued in Uttar Pradesh so far.
This provides free health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh to more than a quarter of the state's population. In 2023-24, more than ₹700 crore was spent on serious health issues like cancer, kidney, and heart disease, providing financial relief to millions of poor families.
Bareilly division has achieved the number one position in the state for this scheme. By November 2025, 90% of the ₹900 crore worth of claims issued here had been paid.
More than 4.53 lakh claims have been settled so far and over 1.2 million golden cards have been issued, making Bareilly a "Super Model of Ayushman."
Under CM Yogi's ambitious initiative, "One District, One Medical College," more than 80 government and private medical colleges have been established in the state.
With the availability of over 3,500 ICU beds and over 2,000 ventilators, critically ill patients now receive super-specialty treatment in their own cities.
A major leap forward in child health, with vaccination coverage exceeding 92%.
Pentavalent vaccine coverage, which was less than 50% in 2017, has increased to over 92%. NHM data shows that more than 20,000 vaccination sessions are being conducted every month in the state.
More than 1 million missed children have been vaccinated under Mission Indradhanush. This change has been crucial in increasing health security, especially among the underprivileged.
Free hemodialysis unit in Agra—a lifeline for kidney patients
The free hemodialysis unit at Agra District Hospital, operated on a PPP model, has provided 8,712 sessions to 726 patients from January to October 2025.
Equipped with 10 state-of-the-art machines, this unit has become a major source of relief for poor kidney patients. Patients are now free from the exorbitant fees of private hospitals.
e-Sanjeevani available at over 28,000 health centres, expert advice reaches villages
E-Sanjeevani telemedicine is available at more than 28,000 HWCs in the state, allowing patients in rural areas to access consultations with specialist doctors without the need to travel. Launched during the COVID era, this facility has now become an integral part of the rural health system.
The Yogi government's health policy focuses on treatment, prevention, and access.
Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, the state's health policy was based on three main pillars-
- Equal access to treatment
- Focus on prevention
- Strong health infrastructure
These strategies have not only led Uttar Pradesh to improve healthcare services, but have also proved to be life-changing for the poor and underprivileged.
