The date for the formation of new districts in Haryana has arrived; CM Saini will announce the names of these new districts
The Haryana government is preparing to announce the state's 23rd district soon. Sources indicate that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini may announce the new district on Haryana Day, November 1, 2025. Currently, three names—Gohana, Hansi, and Dabwali—are among the strongest contenders.

The last district in the state was Charkhi Dadri in 2016. So far, the government has received proposals for 10 new districts, but the official decision will focus on a select few areas.
Who are the contenders
The Haryana government has 10 proposals for new districts—Assandh, Narayangarh, Manesar, Pehowa, Barwala, Safidon, Pataudi, Dabwali, Hansi, and Gohana.
However, indications from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) suggest that only three names are currently at the forefront—Gohana (from Sonipat), Hansi (from Hisar), and Dabwali (from Sirsa).
Making Gohana a district would require reorganizing the boundaries of Sonipat, Rohtak, and Jind districts.
Hansi is a historical area of Hisar district, while Dabwali, located on the Punjab border, has already been declared a "police district."
What are the conditions for becoming a new district?
According to the States Reorganisation Sub-Committee, some key criteria have been fixed for the formation of a new district:
Population of at least 4 lakh
- Range of 125 to 200 villages
- Area of more than 80 thousand hectares
- So far, the committee has received 73 proposals, covering 10 districts, 14 subdivisions, four tehsils, and 27 sub-tehsils.
- Final recommendations will be sent to the Chief Minister for approval.
Cabinet sub-committee held 5 meetings
Five meetings have been held so far regarding the creation of new districts and the reorganization of the administrative structure.
Cabinet Minister Krishan Lal Panwar is the chairman of the committee.
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda and Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana are also participating in the meetings as members.

Minister Panwar said, “The government is fully committed to reorganizing the administrative units based on the demands of the public and public representatives.”
Gohana is located in the northern part of Sonipat and geographically lies between Jind and Rohtak districts. This makes it possible to establish a separate administrative center for the entire area.
Status of Hansi and Dabwali
Hansi, historically part of Hisar district, is known as an educational and business hub. With a population of approximately 400,000, the area also meets the criteria for a new district.
Meanwhile, Dabwali is a border area of Sirsa district. Located on the border with Punjab, it is considered important from both commercial and security perspectives. It has already been designated a "police district," so the possibility of it becoming a full-fledged district is strong.
History of districts in Haryana
Haryana was carved out of Punjab on November 1, 1966, and became a state. At that time, it consisted of seven districts—Ambala, Jind, Hisar, Mahendragarh, Gurugram, Karnal, and Rohtak.
Administrative expansion continued:
- Year Districts created
- 1972 Bhiwani, Sonipat
- 1973 Kurukshetra
- 1975 Sirsa
- 1979 Faridabad
- 1989 Yamunanagar, Kaithal, Rewari, Panipat
- 1995 Panchkula
- 1996 Fatehabad
- 1997 Jhajjar
- 2005 Nuh
- 2008 Palwal
- 2016 Charkhi Dadri
Now there are a total of 22 districts in Haryana, and if a new district is formed then the number will increase to 23.
- The structure of assembly and Lok Sabha seats will also change.
- Following the creation of new districts, delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha seats will also be necessary.
- A decision on this will be made after the 2026 census.
- Currently, Haryana has 90 Assembly constituencies and 10 Lok Sabha seats.
- After delimitation, it is estimated that the number of Assembly seats could increase to 126 and Lok Sabha seats to 14.
The last delimitation exercise in Haryana was in 2007, in which some constituencies were abolished and new constituencies were created.
what will be the next step
Once the reorganization committee's report reaches the Chief Minister's Office, cabinet approval will be sought, and the state's 23rd district is expected to be formally announced on November 1st— Haryana Day
. According to officials, "Priority will be given to one of the most prepared areas so that administrative infrastructure can be set up immediately."
