New Zealand Squad for Australia Series: Amidst the excitement of the Asia Cup, big news has come from the cricket world. New Zealand has announced its squad for the upcoming T20 series against Australia. 

All-rounder Michael Bracewell has been named captain. He will replace regular captain Mitchell Santner. Santner will not be able to play in the series due to injury. He is recovering from abdominal surgery and is expected to return for the England tour later this month.

Bracewell has captained before

Bracewell has previously captained New Zealand in 10 T20Is. He led the team to a 4-1 victory over Pakistan earlier this year. Kyle Jamieson and Ben Sears return to the squad for this series. 

Jamieson withdrew from the Zimbabwe tour to be with his family for the birth of his first child, while Sears was ruled out with a hamstring injury. He will bolster the fast bowling attack alongside Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, and Jack Foulkes.

Aggressive batting line-up

Young batsman Bevon Jacobs retained his place after scoring an unbeaten 44 on his debut against South Africa. Devon Conway also remains in the squad. 

Tim Seifert retained his wicketkeeper-batsman spot after scoring a record-breaking century for St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Tim Robinson, who was named Player of the Match in the tri-series against South Africa, is also in the squad.

Some big players are out due to injury

Ish Sodhi will lead the spin department, while several senior players are unavailable due to injury. Finn Allen, Adam Milne, Will O'Rourke, Glenn Phillips, and Lockie Ferguson are all recovering from injuries. 

Kane Williamson has signed an informal agreement with New Zealand Cricket and has decided not to participate in the series. The three-match T20 series will be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on October 1, 3, and 4.
