This Punjab batsman is the fastest Indian cricketer to score a century in List A, or the ODI format. This cricketer is none other than the destructive batsman Anmolpreet Singh, who plays domestic cricket for Punjab. Anmolpreet Singh is a very dangerous batsman.

This explosive Indian batsman scored the fastest century in ODIs.

On December 21, 2024, Anmolpreet Singh became the fastest Indian batsman to score a century in ODI cricket, the 50-over format. 

Playing for Punjab in a List A (ODI) match against Arunachal Pradesh, Anmolpreet Singh scored a century off just 35 balls. Anmolpreet Singh's unbeaten 115 runs came off 45 balls. This century also holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian batsman in the 50-over format.

In which tournament did he do this amazing feat?

Anmolpreet Singh achieved this feat on December 21, 2024, while playing for Punjab against Arunachal Pradesh in India's domestic ODI tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Arunachal Pradesh were all out for 164 in 48.4 overs. In response, Punjab scored 167 for 1 in 12.5 overs, winning the match by 9 wickets with 223 balls remaining. Anmolpreet Singh was named Man of the Tournament for his outstanding innings.

Anmolpreet Singh broke Yusuf Pathan's record

Before Anmolpreet Singh, the fastest century in List-A cricket (ODI format) was scored by Yusuf Pathan, an Indian cricketer who scored a century in 40 balls. In One Day International cricket, the fastest century is scored by Indian batsman Virat Kohli. 

Virat Kohli scored a century in 52 balls in the Jaipur One Day International match against Australia on October 16, 2013. Furthermore, Australia's fearsome opener Jake Fraser-McGurk set the world record for the fastest century in ODI cricket, i.e., the 50-over format, on October 8, 2023. Jake Fraser-McGurk, playing for South Australia in a List-A (ODI format) match against Tasmania, scored a century in just 29 balls.

World record for the fastest century in the 50-over format

Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 125 runs off 38 balls. This century also holds the world record for the fastest century by any batsman in the 50-over format. 

However, AB de Villiers still holds the world record for the fastest century in an international ODI. It should be noted that in 2015, in an ODI against the West Indies in Johannesburg, AB de Villiers scored a century off just 31 balls. 

In that match, AB de Villiers scored 149 runs off just 44 balls. He hit 16 sixes and 9 fours in his innings. His impressive innings helped South Africa defeat the West Indies by 148 runs.
