Asia Cup 2025: Oman batsman Aamir Kaleem created history by scoring 64 runs against India, breaking a 79-year-old record

Asia Cup 2025: Oman cricket team's 43-year-old opener Aamir Kaleem played a blistering innings of 64 runs off 46 balls against India on Friday in the Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025. Aamir Kaleem hit seven fours and two sixes while batting at a strike rate of 139.13.

Aamir Kaleem hit 7 fours and 2 sixes while batting at a strike rate of 139.13. India, batting first in this match, scored 188 runs in 20 overs by losing 8 wickets and set a target of 189 runs in front of Oman. 

In reply, Oman's team, while chasing the target, could only score 167 runs in 20 overs by losing 4 wickets. Oman's team showed the spirit of victory, but it fell short by 21 runs.

Oman batsman Aamir Kaleem created history

Omani cricketer Aamir Kaleem created history by scoring a half-century against India in the Group A T20 match of the Asia Cup 2025 on Friday. 

At 43 years and 303 days old, Aamir Kaleem became the oldest cricketer to score a half-century against India in any format of international cricket. 

Aamir Kaleem broke the 79-year-old record of England batsman Wally Hammond. Wally Hammond had scored a half-century and 69 runs in a Test match against India in 1946. 

Wally Hammond was 43 years and 31 days old at the time. Wally Hammond had made this record in 1946 at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Aamir Kaleem has broken this 79-year-old record of Wally Hammond.

Aamir Kaleem came from Pakistan and settled in Oman

Aamir Kaleem also became the oldest player to score a T20 International half-century against an ICC full member nation, breaking Chris Gayle's record. 

At the age of 43, Aamir Kaleem also became the first cricketer to score a T20I half-century against a Test-playing nation. Aamir Kaleem's story is an amazing one. 

Aamir Kaleem immigrated from Pakistan and settled in Oman. Aamir Kaleem has been a part of the Oman cricket team since 2012, but his role in the team has changed frequently.

Oman put Indian bowlers to a tough test

Aamir Kaleem is a leg-spin bowling all-rounder. Initially, he batted at number 11, but gradually moved into the middle order. India defeated Oman by 21 runs in this match. 

Although Oman lost the match, their batsmen put the Indian bowlers to a tough test. Had captain Jatinder's innings not been slow, the result might have been different. 

The Indian cricket team won the toss and batted first, scoring 188 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Oman scored 167 runs for 4 wickets and lost the match by 21 runs. For India, Hardik, Harshit, Kuldeep, and Arshdeep took 1 wicket each.
