Is not getting periods on time a sign of any disease?

Dr. Saloni Chadha, of the gynecology department at RML Hospital, explains that missed periods aren't always a sign of a medical condition. 

For many women, this can be due to stress, lifestyle, or physical changes. If periods are delayed for a few days and then return normally, it's usually not a cause for concern.

However, if periods are absent for a long time, are significantly delayed, or suddenly stop altogether, this could indicate an underlying problem. 

If this is accompanied by abdominal pain, excessive or scanty bleeding, weakness, or hormonal problems, it's important to consult a doctor. Early diagnosis can help identify the cause and provide appropriate treatment.

What diseases are at risk?

Dr. Saloni Chadha explains that frequent missed periods can be linked to certain medical conditions, including hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, PCOD/PCOS, excessive weight gain or loss. Additionally, excessive stress or a long-term poor lifestyle can also contribute to this.

In some cases, conditions like pregnancy or anemia can also affect periods. If the problem persists for a long time, it could lead to future fertility issues. Therefore, it's important to understand the symptoms and consult a doctor promptly.

How to prevent it?
