UN Concern on Children Obesity Problem : The use of junk food has pushed children and adolescents towards obesity. As a result, children/adolescents aged five to 19 years are becoming obese.

UNICEF has issued a warning about this in a new report. In this terrifying report, UNICEF estimates that in 2025, about one in 10 children in this age group will be suffering from serious diseases, due to the easy availability of ultra-processed junk food. According to the agency, there is also, "even in countries that are still struggling with child malnutrition."

UNICEF released the report.

UNICEF Chief Catherine Russell said in a statement releasing the report, "Today when we talk about malnutrition, we are not only talking about underweight children."

Obesity is affecting the growth of children.

"Ultra-processed junk foods are replacing fruits, vegetables and protein at a time when nutrition plays an important role in the growth and mental health of children."

It was 13 percent in 2000, which has come down to 10 percent in 2022. But in the same period, the number of overweight children in this age group has increased drastically. The number was 19.4 crore in 2000, which reached 39.1 crore in 2022.

children was 9.2%. An estimated 188 million children and adolescents are obese.

UNICEF clearly stated that the main reason for obesity

is not only the wrong food choices but also unethical business practices adopted to earn profit. UNICEF said that the fault lies neither with the children nor their families, but with "society's failure to protect the environment in which children grow up."

The rate of overweight children in developed countries

Historically, the rate of overweight children is quite high in the more developed countries. For some countries, this situation is no less than a double curse. These are the countries that are suffering from both malnutrition and obesity.
