Now you can travel with your pet dog in Haryana Roadways, know the rules

Now, there's a big relief for passengers traveling on Haryana's roadways buses—passengers can even take their pet dogs with them, they just have to follow the department's new rules.

The Haryana Transport Department has issued clear instructions that now passengers will have to buy a ticket for their small pet dog, equivalent to two adult passengers.

This fee has been fixed so that the dog can get a separate seat and fellow passengers don't face any inconvenience. Large dogs or dogs with aggressive tendencies are prohibited from boarding the bus, ensuring a comfortable journey for everyone.

What rules are necessary to follow?

In addition to the dog's size and behavior, passengers must also carry their dog's health report. This requires an anti-rabies vaccination certificate, a medical fitness report, and a muzzle (mask) for the dog while traveling on the bus.

Traveling without medical documents or following the rules can result in a fine of up to ten times the violation, for both the conductor and the passenger. During the journey, the dog must be kept under or near the seat to avoid inconvenience to other passengers.

Recent events: After the new rule came into effect

Recently, in Fatehabad, a passenger boarded a bus without a dog ticket, leading to a dispute between the ticket checking team and the conductor.

Following this incident, the Transport Department has issued a warning to strictly enforce the rules. The bus conductor also faced a departmental inquiry, making it clear that disregarding the rules will no longer be tolerated.

Rules for travelling with a pet dog in railways

Indian Railways has also made traveling with a pet dog easier—but with some conditions. Passengers wishing to bring their dog along on the train must book a full compartment/cabin in the first AC compartment (1A).

Dogs are prohibited in other classes; passengers may send their dog in the brake van as a parcel if they wish. Health and vaccination certificates are mandatory before booking, and the dog must be kept on a leash or cage for identification.

The owner is responsible for the dog's complete care during the journey, and it must be provided with food and water on time.

Advice and benefits for citizens

Passengers are advised to have all dog-related documents ready and to begin their journey only after obtaining complete information from bus/railway staff.

This facility will make travel easier for pet lovers, especially. The department has clarified that the rules have been established for everyone's convenience and safety—and it is in everyone's right to follow them.
