Haryana IPS Y Puran Kumar suicide case: Government takes action against DGP Shatrughan Kapoor
The government has taken a major step in the suicide case of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar. DGP Shatrughan Kapoor, accused in the suicide case of police officer Puran Kumar, has been sent on long leave.
Chandigarh Police has filed an FIR against all the officers involved and has begun investigating the case. Puran Kumar shot himself in Chandigarh on October 7th. His suicide note, which includes the names of several senior officers, is a key link in this case.
Stay on family's demand, post mortem is still pending
The victim's family remains outraged over the incident. Puran Kumar's wife, IAS officer Amneet Kumar, is demanding the arrest of the accused.
This is why, even after seven days, the deceased's post-mortem has not been conducted, and the funeral rites are still pending. The family says they will not allow the funeral to take place until the accused named in the FIR are arrested.
Rahul Gandhi will meet his family today
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will arrive in Chandigarh today. He will meet with Puran Kumar's family to pay his respects and express his condolences.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi have already assured the family of all possible assistance. Priyanka Gandhi has also publicly expressed her condolences. Several opposition leaders have already inquired about the well-being of the bereaved family.
Mahapanchayat's ultimatum will end soon, government action will be intensified
Given the seriousness of the matter, the family and community have formed a 31-member Mahapanchayat, which has issued an ultimatum to the administration to arrest the accused within 48 hours.
The government has already placed DGP Shatrughan Kapoor on leave. Former Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia has also been removed from his post. The family is demanding the addition of Section 306 (abetment to suicide) to the IPC and the naming of the accused.
What's next in the investigation?
Based on complaints from the victim's family, the Chandigarh Police have ordered an investigation into the victim's laptop and other electronic devices.
The police want to verify the veracity of the suicide note using the laptop's data. Additional officers have been added to the investigation, looking for call records, emails, and other evidence. It's possible that the FIR will soon be expanded by adding new names and sections.
