DMRC Updates: In response to the overcrowding in Delhi and to provide relief from traffic jams, the DMRC has taken a major decision. A new feature for the Delhi Metro is being tested under the DMRC. This new feature will provide relief to Delhi Metro passengers. Let's explore this in detail in the news.
News (Delhi-NCR) The Delhi Metro has experienced numerous technical glitches, causing numerous problems for commuters. However, to alleviate these difficulties, the DMRC (DMRC Updates) has now taken a major decision. New features will now be tested on the Delhi Metro. Let's learn more about the updates related to the Delhi Metro in this news.
Ultrasonic testing of rail welds begins
Due to frequent technical glitches on the metro, DMRC is preparing to begin ultrasonic testing, for which tenders have been issued. These tests will be conducted on Lines 3 and 4, the oldest Blue Line routes.
Following a series of technical glitches on the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will introduce ultrasonic testing of rail welds to strengthen safety checks across its network. These technical glitches have disrupted metro services on several routes, leading to congestion at stations.
Tenders issued
Rail welds are joints that connect sections of track together to form a continuous track. A tender was issued on October 7th, inviting agencies to conduct alumino-thermic weld and ultrasonic flaw detection testing of rails on six lines, including the Airport Express Line.
The contract will be completed within a period of three years.
The contract, worth approximately ₹1.89 crore, will be completed over a period of three years. According to the tender, the project aims to detect hidden defects in rails (Delhi Metro Updates) and welds that could cause operational problems or safety risks. The goal of these tests, according to the tender, is to detect internal problems in metro systems, such as cracks and corrosion.
When did the Blue Line face technical difficulties?
These tests are being conducted on Lines 3 and 4, the oldest Blue Line routes. They run from Noida to Dwarka and Yamuna Bank to Vaishali. However, the Blue Line experienced technical issues for two days in September.
Ultrasonic testing is also being conducted on Line 6 connecting Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh via New Delhi, Line 8 (magenta line) from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden, Line 9 (grey line) from Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand, and the Airport Express Line. This initiative has been initiated because of several incidents of technical glitches in recent months.
